Festivals “Atspindys“

The public undertaking “Visagino Atspindys” organizes an international festival “Atspindys“ (“Reflection”) starting from 2006 in Visaginas, a Lithuanian city situated in far North-East of the country. This festival is an annual event accepted to the UNESCO International Monodrama Forum (IMF). City of Visaginas is a special place in Lithuania and was founded in 1983 after establishment of nuclear power plant, which operation was suspended in 2004. Until now, Visaginas ethnic composition is formed by various nationalities.
During these fifteen years when the annual festival was annually organized, its audience had a chance to see performances of the most prominent Lithuanian mono performers and artists (such as, Birutė Mar, Andra Kavaliauskaitė, Aleksandras Rubinovas, Gediminas Storpirštis, Martynas Nedzinskas, Šarūnas Puidokas and others) and also artists from foreign countries, including Armenia, Azerbaijan, Brazil, Great Britain, Belarus, USA, Italy, Israel, Iran, Cameroon, Cuba, Kosovo, Poland, Latvia, Mexico, Moldova, France, Russia, Slovenia, Slovakia, Finland, Tunisia, Ukraine, Germany and others. During this time citizens of Visaginas had a possibility to admire more than 200 performances and acquainted themselves with various mono performers from more than 20 foreign countries.
Admiration of Visaginas citizens, their warmth and hospitality transforms this annual festival into a special feast that one would like to relive again and again, meanwhile exposed mono performances bring together their artists and spectators the closest possible and create a sensitive atmosphere of theatrical bonds. As a prominent Polish theater critique Tomasz Milkowski noted, the phenomenon of this festival is a full house of spectators, even though city itself is quite small.

An international expert jury evaluates the performances of Lithuanian artists and artists from other countries.
Right from the first year of “Atspindys“, its team started a tradition that the festival had to be presented in Vilnius, Kaunas, other Lithuanian cities and its best performances had to be shown to these cities’ audiences. Together with the main program during the festival, the festival team organizes artistic evenings, meetings with theatre creators, reviews of films on mono performers and festivals and also other type of events. Exhibitions of photographs from Visaginas, who had captured the previous events of the festival are held within the spaces of the festival.
